Substance Abuse Professionals- Online Treatment Overview -eGetgoing TreatmenteGetgoing provides online outpatient treatment and aftercare services modeled after the traditional outpatient programs used by our affiliate, CRC Health Corporation. By making group chemical dependency treatment and aftercare services available, we hope to improve access by overcoming the common obstacles to treatment: availability, cost, convenience, and anonymity.A Summary of How Online Group Treatment WorksGroup treatment means a group where members wear headsets and view live video of their group leader while he or she talks with them. They can talk directly to the leader and talk with other group members as well. To protect anonymity, we do not show the faces of any of the group members. This is a real group that verbally interacts with each other in real time.To improve the emotional involvement in the group, we have produced videos following a simulated group based on the interactions of a real outpatient group. These videos, shown as part of each treatment session, cover the educational material found in all outpatient drug and alcohol treatment. In addition, one video in each session addresses emotional issues and teaches clients how to manage feelings and reduce anxiety. There can be two or three videos in each online session. Videos run a total of 8 - 12 minutes during the one-hour online group. Just as we become involved in a movie, these videos of the simulated "peer group" allow group members to relate to others struggling in the process of recovery. Clients react and become more focused on the core issues of each group. Ancillary material is presented to the group through slides and illustrations. Tools Available in the Online GroupOnline counselors utilize the same type of tools that are used in residential and outpatient settings. For example, by using a white board, the group leader can make diagrams or encourage all members of the group to illustrate, write or type in comments that the group can then share. The group leader can create sub-groups(break-out sessions) for personal interactions and then reassemble the whole group for further discussion. The leader can ask questions to which the members of the group can answer yes or no. When a poll is taken, the group leader sees an immediate graph of the group consensus. The group leader can choose whether or not to share the results with the group. Homework, Personal Journal, and PersonalizationHomework assignments are given after each group. Completed assignments are reviewed by the counselor and individualized feedback is given to each client via secure email. Client's can view their assignments and access their personal journal from their Personal Home Page where anxiety, sobriety, and attendance are graphed based on assessments taken before and after each group session.Online treatment allows a great deal of personalization. Our groups are limited to 10 regular members who get personal feedback and responses from the group leader on their Personal Home Page. Our internal email system helps members to communicate with each other and their group leader, an experienced drug and alcohol abuse counselor. Aftercare Tracking and GroupsAftercare tracking begins one week post discharge. Alumni are then contacted at 3-month, 6-month, 9-month and 12-month marks.Afercare is available twice per week. Alumni may choose to participate in a secured, text chat room or in a live online aftercare support group. Aftercare is provided at no cost for one year post treatment. Professional ReferralsClients referred by EAPs and other professionals can receive feedback on how their referrals are doing by email as often as requested. Clients sign consent forms for this purpose. Attendance, sobriety, participation, anxiety and depression are closely monitored.Because eGetgoing provides services via the Internet, we are a useful referral point for physicians, mental health care professionals, social service and counseling agencies, workplaces, schools and others concerned about finding help for someone in need. By enhancing the continuum of care by providing quality Internet-based services, eGetgoing provides treatment and aftercare that may be appropriate to both the level of care needed and an individual's specific situation and circumstances. For those client's who need detox before online treatment or who need inpatient residential care, appropriate referrals will be made.
