If I share my computer with someone else, will they be able to access my private communications with eGetgoing?

NO, as long as a few basic precautions are taken, others using your computer will not have access to your eGetgoing activities. We suggest that you sign off eGetgoing and your system when you're done using your computer. We also suggest that you do NOT use the automatic form complete feature in most browsers.

I have heard that web browsers will sometimes store information about the pages I visit, is this something I need to look out for?

Yes, there are a few areas on all browsers that you need to look out for:
  • First: never save site bookmarks (also called favorites).
  • Next, there is a history button on most browsers, this area should be cleared following each visit to a confidential site or as the last step before shutdown.
  • Last, every browser has a location where you may delete cached files. Cache are files that are stored locally to may your system faster. On Internet explorer, this section is located under the TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS and then DELETE TEMPORARY FILES.

If I'm in a private area or office at work, do I need to worry about the confidentiality of my computer access?

Yes, if you're connected to the corporate network, network administrators have access to the "digital traffic" going over their wires.

No, eGetgoing does not use any permanent cookies.

How can I tell if my computer will work on the eGetgoing program?

Are you connected to any online service? This indicates you can connect with us. If your system has speakers, chances are it also has a modem and CD-ROM. Most systems purchased in the last 3-4 years will work. We will give you a software package to connect with us. Our staff will assist you with this. If you have any further questions call our toll free help line at 1-866-435-7999.

I'm on a free Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection, the speed is sometimes very slow, will this work?

No, free ISPs are often not reliable. However, we will provide you with a direct connection to our system if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not have the speed necessary to function properly. This capability will only be present for the eGetgoing Group Sessions. If you are dissatisfied with your current provider, it may be a good time to make a change.

What if I have call waiting?

If your phone has call waiting, we will provide you with a dialer that will temporarily disable this feature during your group session.

What if my computer doesn't have any sound capabilities?

A good sound card costs about $65 including tax. To have the card installed should cost about $35 - $45. It's about 30 minutes labor max.

Where can I attend your group session?

You may attend a group session from anywhere you can get Internet access! It helps to have a quiet, private place where you can talk comfortably.

The Internet scares me, I've heard so many stories about how unsecured it is, how do I know my privacy is being maintained?

There are many reasons why your connection with eGetgoing is much more secure than most other forms of Internet communication. Please refer to our section on privacy and security for a complete discussion of this issue.
  • All voice communications are encoded.
  • The personal sections of the eGetgoing website are secured by very secure (SSL) encryption.
  • We don't store cookies on your system.
  • You may participate and remain completely anonymous if you wish.

Can anyone see me while I'm in group session?

No. Only counselors and special guests have cameras on their systems. No one can see you through our program.

Where can add an attachment to my eGetgoing email?

Sorry, we don't provide for email attachments. As attachments can often carry a virus, we're very careful about this.

Can I do anything else on my computer while I'm in group? It's not recommended, most of your systems resources are dedicated to the group session. Other activities can cause the computer to lock-up. This will require a restart and possibly a loss of valuable group session time.

Why is my video so choppy?

If you are referring to the counselor video, it's not unusual to see some choppy motion. If your video peer group playback is choppy, it's likely that your computer is at the edge of it's technical limitations. We suggest that you restart your system. It may be useful to defragment your hard drive. This utility can be found in system tools. Allow 30 minutes for this process.

How does your email work, can I send messages to my friends?

eGetgoing email is specially designed to communicate with your group and counselor. This email does not use any local files to store information on you computer. Also, eGetgoing email is secured with SSL. SSL security means it will be next to impossible for computer person to view you email as it is deliver or sent through the Internet.

Does Journal work the same way as email?

Yes. Like email, your personal Journal is secure and what you write in your Journal will not be stored on your computer.

Do I need anything else to setup for a group session?

We will send you everything you will need and help you install it. You will receive a headset, CD-ROM Disks, a quick reference card and instructions.

What time do I sign in?

Check-in time is 30 minutes prior to the counseling session. This enables you to adjust your system for optimal performance. We send you a headset to make things more private, if you have a laptop and the room is very quiet, your built in speakers and microphone may work just fine.
