Primary treatment and continuing care programs present the tools needed for recovery. Each treatment and continuing care session follows a pre-determined agenda designed to address a particular topic area. Based on the 12-Step approach, sessions present information on relapse prevention, medical aspects of addiction, anger management and other topics. Eighty percent of group time is spent in discussion, supported by interactive multimedia tools.
Video dramatizations. Pre-recorded dramatizations (short videos of a fictional group in treatment) help clients emotionally relate to important issues and serve as a springboard for group discussion.
Interactive slides. Clients type and draw on session slides to share ideas and personalize the treatment experience.
White Board. The counselor may also utilize a white board on which both counselor and client can draw illustrations or type to communicate ideas.
Private Chat. A client may interact with the counselor either by voice (also heard by the entire group), or by instant text messages (privately viewed only by the counselor).
Plan of Action. At the end of each session, counselors help clients develop a personalized plan of action - a tool they can use until the next group to keep them "safe, sane and sober."
