Al-anon
Overview
Al-Anon is a Twelve Step recovery program for relatives and friends of alcoholics. The
Al-Anon program is based on the
Twelve Steps
and Twelve Traditions
of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), but Al-Anon is not affiliated with A.A. or with any sect,
denomination, organization, or institution. Al-Anon members recognize that alcoholism
is a "family disease" that affects the family and friends of the alcoholic.
Al-Anon members are men and women of all ages and from many different social, economic,
cultural, and religious backgrounds. Many Al-Anon members use the Twelve Steps of recovery
as a guideline for developing a satisfying life. Members attend meetings where they share
their experiences, strengths, and hopes with others who have a family member or friend who
is alcoholic.
